How To: Unclog a Soap Dispenser Pump

20 Feb

A familiar issue with soap dispensers that many customers will encounter is the soap dispenser pump will get clogged. Instead of going out and purchasing a new one, here are some steps for saving some cash, and preserving the same soap dispenser you love! Refilling your soap dispenser is an economically and environmentally saving item already, and preserving the pump could help you save even more.

Built up soap debris can eventually cause the soap dispenser to clog up and stop soap from being pumped; luckily this reoccurring problem can be fixed rather easily. It is highly recommended to try to clean your dispensers once a month to remove these residues so your soap dispensers can continue functioning properly and that way you can avoid taking these steps below.

First, here are some things you’ll need:

   -Small container
   -Tub
   -Soft bristle brush
   -Funnel (optional)

If you follow these few instructions, you could potentially save your soap dispenser pump and money!

  1) Simply unscrew the top of your soap dispenser and remove any remaining soap. Rinse the dispenser with hot water and repeat until all soap residue is gone.

   2) Refill the soap dispenser halfway with hot water and replace the top securely.

   3) Shake the soap dispenser firmly for about half a minute and press the pump down so it can get to the hard to reach clogged areas within the pump. Continue to press the pump until the spout can operate without resistance. If this works skip to step 5.

    4) Sometimes this will not work. Take the dispenser apart again and soak the entirety of the product in a tub of hot water. Take the soft bristle brush, or any thin item that fit within the pump to try to remove any soap residue blocking the pump.

   5) Put back together the soap dispenser securely and test it out by filling it only with normal water to assure all clogs are removed and that the soap dispenser can fulfill its function fully on its own. Pour the water out if it functions correctly, if not, you may want to allow the soap dispenser to soak in the tub of hot water for a little longer.

   6) Reassemble the soap dispenser, and refill your dispenser with the desired soap, using the funnel if need be.

For those who can not cure the dispenser from this clog, you can try to contact the place you had originally purchased the soap dispenser from and see if you can purchase just the soap dispenser pump replacement. Although this may cost some money, it could potentially still be cheaper than purchasing an entirely new dispenser.

How To: Abolish Mold Off Any Surface

19 Jan

You would think that a room meant for cleansing yourself would remain clean itself? Actually, the bathroom holds such a humid environment that it is the perfect place for mold growth and unwanted bacteria. Mold can cause allergic reactions, but the materials used to remove the mold can equally, if not more, dangerous than the actual mold. There are safer and non-toxic ways to abolish the undesired mold from any bathroom surface. Just follow the steps below, and you could have a mold-free bathroom within minutes.

First, you will need the necessary supplies. Be sure to stock up on:

Safety goggles
Rubber gloves
N95 respirator mask
Spray bottle of mild, non-toxic cleaner
White vinegar
A bucket
Sponges
Towels

Now simply follow the instructions.

1). Open all windows and doors to provide good ventilation through the area. To protect your health, be sure to put on the respirator mask, safety goggles and rubber gloves to avoid any potential toxic materials.

2). Spray a mild, non-toxic cleaner to all of the messy bathroom surfaces.

3). Next, wet a sponge and simply scrub the surface with the dirt against the cleaner. Although very in complex, this can sometimes do the trick all on its own! Continue by rinsing the surface with a clean, wet sponge with water.

4). Pour 8 cups of clean, luke-warm water and 8 cups of the white vinegar into the bucket. Allow a fresh sponge to soak up this solution.

5). Take the sponge that was soaking in the warm and vinegar solution and wipe down any remaining moldy surfaces. This solution proves to be extremely effective against mold. The longer you let the solution mix soak on the surface, the more active it will be to get the remaining soap scum off the surface the first agent was unable to remove.

6). To remove the vinegar and water solution, take a new, clean sponge filled with water to wipe the access solutions off. Make sure to rinse the sponge often with clean water so that no leftover solution is remaining. Scrub and rinse thoroughly with water!

7). When you are sure there is no vinegar and water solution left on the surface, and no disgusting mold is still present on the surface, take some towels are pat the surface dry.

VOILÀ! You now have a hygienic, and sparkling bathroom to enjoy your cleansing in.

Go to TheBathOutlet.com to help your bathroom glitter with many luxury bathroom accessories that will provide that extra shine!

How To Create a Contemporary Theme

17 Nov

Interior decorators are rapidly drifting toward the contemporary style, and we can see why!  The contemporary movement gives off such a tasteful and sophisticated appearance that could make an everlasting impression from any guest.  Luckily, contemporary characteristics are extremely easy to replicate, making this an exciting home project that can be done at your own convenience.  Here are a few steps to spice up your current theme and make it a contemporary masterpiece.

First, in any contemporary theme, every item has a purpose! Whether its a candle holder or soap dish, it will be sure to stand out.

When choosing colors, you want naturally easy hues WITHOUT any decorations.  Unnecessary decorations could ultimately be the downfall of your project. You also want to stay near warm colors,  since most contemporary designs have a more eternal, natural appearance.

After choosing the colors, the placement of the colors becomes more important.  Contemporary styles take the simplicity of “blocking” the colors.  This means each color has its own division of space, whether each wall has its own color, or you split the colors up.  For instance, using a brown for the walls, a separate color for the windows, and even another separate color for either a bed spread, towels, etc.

Another interesting aspect of a contemporary theme is the attraction to straight lines.  When choosing furniture, stay away curves!  Contemporary strives to implement the various straight lines and angles, rather than curves, so try your best to keep curves at a minimum!

When heading toward the decorating of the windows, SIMPLE IS SWEET!  Contemporary designs adore practicality and classicality.  Leave the window open and bare!

Next, by simply bringing some of the outdoors in, you can achieve your contemporary theme!   Adding bamboo, or wood into the room will help bring out the natural decor of your newly renovated room.  Even add a comforting texture to the walls or accessories for an ultimate contemporary feel!

With its growing popularity,  contemporary themes are taking over, don’t get caught behind!  If you are ever thinking of redecorating your bathrooms, TheBathOutlet.com has intriguing contemporary bathroom items, to compliment your new design.

How To: Prevent Rust Stains in Sinks and Showers

8 Nov

We apologize this picture is not as beautiful, or luxurious as some of the other pictures we have posted, but for some of you, this may be a familiar site.  Rust in a sink or shower tub are very common.  Yet when it comes time to purchase an expensive piece for your bathroom, the last thing thought about is how long it will last before it corrodes or rust stains become apparent.

If you are looking to redecorate and upgrade your bathroom, luxury items can become very expensive and it would be very disappointing if these items were to get ruined by something as preventable as rust.  If the right precautions and steps are taken, these stains can be prohibited, but once these stains develop over time, they can be very difficult to remove.  Without fully removing your item, the stains can permanently damage the surfaces, and ultimately even decrease the value of your home!  Instead of waiting for the stain to sit and make your life more difficult, take some of these simple, anger saving steps so you don’t have to compromise your sanity.

First, grab fingernail polish, a plastic container, an iron filter and water softener.  These items will be the core items in preventing rust.

Now something as easy as never leaving iron or non-stainless steel objects in the sinks or tubs is your first precaution.  When iron and stainless steel items are left in damp, wet area they can easily form rust stains.  This can include anything from cooking sheets to metal utensils.

Protective measure number two: Grab the fingernail polish and line it on the metal rim at the bottom of the shower.

Next, avoid using steel brushes or steel wool brushes in the sinks or showers.  If steel brushes are your only option, store a plastic container near by to place them in after use.  Leaving them in the sink, or even near the sink edge will cause rust stains to form.

Lastly, think about getting a water softener or an iron filter installed because if there is too much iron content in your water supply it could be the main reason why the rust stains are developing.  The water softener will do all the work for you and destroy the iron before it even has an opportunity.

Please remember these are suggestions for preventing rust stains, but they may save you the time trying to figure out how in the world to remove all that disgusting rust that is already settled.  So instead of having your shower or sink looking like the horrid pictures above, why not have it look like this…

Check out some of the stylish bathroom sinks we have available at TheBathOutlet.com and use these steps above to maintain their original beauty without rust stains getting in the way.

How to Clean a Toilet Brush

23 Aug

Cleaning a toilet brush properly is part of keeping your bathroom fresh and clean.  After all, a toilet brush set is exposed to germs and dirt each time it is used.  Using a dirty toilet bowl brush will simply spread harmful microorganisms around, defeating its purpose.  To maintain a truly-clean toilet, your toilet brush and plunger set needs to be regularly disinfected.  In this article, we provide you with everything you need to know about how to clean toilet brush sets properly.

To clean and disinfect your toilet bowl brush and its accessories, prepare the following items:

  • A bucket large enough to soak the toilet brush halfway up its handle, as well as toilet brush caddy or toilet brush holder
  • Boiling hot water
  • Pure bleach for disinfecting
  • Heavy-duty powder detergent
  • A sponge for scrubbing
  • An old toothbrush
  • Some newspapers or old dry towels
  1. Start by completely rinsing your toilet bowl brush and all of its accompanying accessories if any, such as a toilet brush holder or matching plunger.
  2. Once all of the surface debris has been rinsed off, take the entire toilet brush set and dunk it in the bucket.  If you happen to have a set of decorative toilet brush set and holder, handle it carefully so that it does not sustain any damage.  Lay it carefully inside the bucket.
  3. Pour boiling hot water over everything so that the heat can kill the unseen bacteria lurking on its surfaces.  Allow the hot water to immerse as much of the toilet brush as possible.
  4. Pour in about 2 cups of pure bleach for every 1 ½ gallons of hot water.  Leave your toilet brush set to soak for about an hour, or until the diluted bleach solution cools completely.
  5. After one hour, remove each piece of your toilet brush set from soaking.  Give the handle and the toilet brush caddy a good scrubbing with the sponge and detergent powder.  Use the old toothbrush on stubborn stains and hard-to-reach places.  If your set has a ceramic toilet brush holder, use a non-abrasive sponge.
  6. Rinse the toilet brush set thoroughly and lay on an old towel to dry.  However, if possible, leave it out to dry outdoors and in direct sunlight.  This will keep your toilet brush fresher, particularly if it has a wooden handle.

For a greener way to clean your toilet brush, you can use white vinegar or fresh lemon juice instead of bleach.

How to Mount A Towel Bar in Your Bathroom

18 Aug

Things Needed

  1. Stud Marker (optional)
  2. Screws
  3. Measuring Tape
  4. Level

You don’t really realize how much you need your bathroom towel bar, until it is no longer functioning. If you have a broken towel bar, you can find yourself wondering where to hang your wet towels. When you are ready to hang a new towel bar, you may feel like you have no idea what you are doing. The good news is that changing a towel bar is simple and easy as long as you follow a few steps.

Step 1

Measure where you are planning to hang your towel bar. Hold the bar next to the wall and center it where you want to place it. If you have a stud finder, use it to help you locate the studs in the wall. Mark the wall where each end of the bar will hang.

Step 2

Attach one of the mounting plates. Start with one of the mounting plates and loosely attach it to the wall. Make sure that you don’t tighten the screw completely. If one of the mounting plates are going to be on a stud, mount that one first. If there are no studs, attach the screws with an anchor.

Step 3

Check your measurements. Before you attach the second mounting plate, make sure that your measurements are correct. Place one side of the bar into the mounting plate that is installed. Make sure that your mark for the second plate is correct.

Step 4

Install the second plate. If the measurement is correct, then install your second mounting plate.

Step 5

Level out your work. After both plates are mounted, use a level and make sure the plates are even. Since the screws will still be loose, you can move the plates up and down to make them level. When you are happy with the mounts, tighten all of the screws.

Step 6

Place the bar on the mounting plates. Attach the bar on the plates. An allen key is usually in the kit. Use the allen key to tighten every tiny little screw. Make sure that the rack is tight and secure. Remember this rack is going to be holding heavy and wet towels, so don’t miss any steps.
